Finding your unique purpose

Hi everyone, I am Michelle Bloem, founder and owner of Unique Purpose life coaching.

As the name of my business states, I am passionate about helping people find their unique purpose and especially like to encourage young people to find their right path in life.

I am so passionate about this, because I know from my own experience that knowing where you are going at an early age, help you to fast track your personal success.

We are all fingerprint-unique and uniquely equipped to live only one life, especially designed for us. Therefore we should never envy someone else’s life or compare our lives to that of another. Life is not a competition and we are all winners when we live out our unique potential to fulfill our unique purpose.

Are you as a young adult looking forward to start your lifework and make your unique contribution to this world?

Or are you unsure about what will happen once you leave school? Isn’t it ironic that one day you still need to ask permission to leave the bathroom and the next you are expected to handle life as an independent adult?

Let me assure you: if you are intent of living a purpose driven life, you will find it.

It took me 40 years to find what I now regard as my true calling. I still remember my first “grown-up” fear was after my final exams at high school when I had to make a choice about a career and did not know what to study.

After a few changes in courses I graduated with a BA in languages. Although I loved languages to the extent that I went on to complete a structured MA in literary science studies, I still did not feel that this highly academic course was the one I wanted to follow.

Life happens and in the same year that I graduated, I became a mother. I then turned to my culinary hobby and started a catering company, as this was a practical way to make an income with two young children. Again I enjoyed this venture which lead me to hold many interesting jobs: I were a consultant chef at a five star guest house, ran a farm stall-restaurant and was the owner manager of a sushi-, juice and coffee bar in a gym, amongst other things.

Although I believe we learn from and grow through all our experiences and life lessons, I do believe that one can fast-track your life to your unique calling.

It took me another few years and yet another line of work before I found what I now regard as my true calling.

I moved from Swellendam to Cape Town in 2010 and started working as an HR-manager for a domestic placement company. I loved working with the applicants, as well as the clients, conducting thousands of interviews. I realized that I had a genuine interest in people and a great desire to help them.

In 2015 I joined yet another recruitment company that specializes in placing child care specialists, as an HR manager. I started to realize that I wanted to help people on a more personal level and to work with them in the capacity of a mentor or coach. I also had a desire to work for myself. In February 2017 I signed up with a life coach training company as I have always been interested in positive psychology and to help people in a positive and purpose full way.

I completed the two year course in six months and passed both my theoretical and practical exams with distinction. I share this with you because I believe if you are truly motivated to do what you love and love what you do, you will succeed. Since my certification I have been building up my life coaching business, have been of true value for others and enjoy every moment of being a life coach and small business owner.

I know your first question is: “How do I know when I am on the right track? How do I find my unique purpose?”

Some people know from an early age where their unique talents and gifts are leading them and seem to make the leap to their destiny almost effortlessly. Unfortunately the majority of people drift through life rather aimlessly.

How do I know this? I can make this claim because of statistics. According to research 75% of first year students change their courses a few times or quit studying altogether. Statistics also show us that 75% of employees regard their jobs just as a means of survival.

I believe we can all find our unique genius and live a life in which we can excel. I believe the answer lies in asking deep and reflective questions about where we are heading in life. I have compiled a questionnaire after doing extensive research on the best questions to find your unique purpose. This questionnaire is available for free on my website at: www.michellebloem.co.za
